When they make it into Manhattan, Percy ditches Grover who has to go to the restroom. Percy is very frightened by this and assumes that the string of yarn that had just been cut off was his. The string in their hand is the lifeline of a person and when cut, it signifies the person's death. He explains to Percy that the Fates are the ones who decide the lifespan of a being. On his way home for the summer, he sees three very old women knitting, who turn out to be the Fates, cut a line of string, and Grover tells him this is worse than it really seems. Percy is almost led to believe this, too, until he eavesdrops on Grover and Mr. Percy, however, suspects that something is going on since whenever he asks Grover, he hesitates. Percy is outraged, and suddenly, water from a nearby fountain drenches Nancy in a very unnatural way but the Mist makes it look like Percy pushed her. THE LIGHTNING THIEF features a talented cast, composed of 13 students between the ages of twelve and seventeen. He must travel to the Underworld and back solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. When Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. THE LIGHTNING THIEF, The Percy Jackson Musical is the musical adaptation of Rick Riordan’s best selling book. All audience members are required to wear a mask.
